Amanda Palmer - Solo show in London - August 3rd

I cannot be more excited. I managed to get tickets for Amanda Palmer's solo show at the Bush Hall on August 3rd. It's a really small venue and I was sure I wasn't going to get a ticket; however I managed to get FOUR :) Wheeee. And no, I'm not one of these people who buys tickets and then flogs them for loads of money on Ebay. I just know that there will be three other people who will want to come with me :) Even Mart said he was up for it! Wheeee (he also lent me his credit card to get the damned things !!!).
Part of me wants to ask if I can take photos - whereas the other part of me just wants to watch. Hmmm ... there's no harm in asking is there?
I'm just WAY too excited now ... I really should still be a teenager shouldn't I?

Losing photos, being crap, watching Shaun of the Dead

I found some of my Dresden Dolls shots. I've lost the disc with the ones I took on Pixie's camera on the 3rd November. Fuck knows where they've gone. I'm pretty sure I've got the hi-res ones of the ones I REALLY wanted because I've been asked to license one of my Margaret Cho ones to her management company.

The one to the left is of Circus Krin. They contacted me the other day wanting to use one on their website ... one or two. So that's cool :)

I got my time-table today. Two bottom set year 8's. I've NEVER taught bottom set, I have NO idea what to do. Hmmm, not looking forward to it at all. At least I have a top set Year 9 and top set Year 7 to balance it out!

I'm watching Shaun of the Dead with my Post-16s at the moment. We're studying genre, and I chose horror. Specifically zombie films. I love them!

Did you know that already there have been around 60 zombie films made this decade? I always wonder whether the proliferation of zombie films in the noughties is because either:

1) There are too many real horrors to face

2) Society's fears of science

Hmmmmm.

HMV website ... grrrrr

I HATE inefficiency - especially when they try to fob you off with lame excuses.

I ordered the new Dresden Dolls DVD from the HMV website, on Sunday. Ok, there was a postal strike on Friday but there is NO WAY this should mean that they have a 5 day back up. Apparently my parcel is sitting in the warehouse now, all packed up with the address label on and everything (this is what the blokey said on the phone). However, it's missed today's post by about a minute. So it won't be sent out until Monday. Then, it could take up to another 5 days to arrive on my door mat. Meaning this DVD has taken approximately 2 weeks to get to me.

CRAP. CRAP. CRAP.

There is absolutely NO WAY they had a 5 day back up. A postal strike does not cause that and it is such a poor poor poor excuse - because they KNEW there was going to be a postal strike - you cover yourselves on those occasions.

Then he had the cheek to tell me that they prioritised CDs. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

So I've cancelled it and ordered it from Play.com. It's £2 more expensive but I'm willing to swallow that to get it faster.

What really bugs me is that I ordered something the SAME DAY on the internet and it arrived within 2 days.

PURE ineffeciency.

Hee hee

Rant over.

I forgot I had this ... again

I am quite useless it has to be said.

I've been reading Out of the Ordinary - True Tales of Everyday Craziness by Jon Ronson, over the past couple of days. My husband used to accuse me of stalking Jon Ronson for a while. Mainly because I used to post on his forum all the time, go to book readings and take it on my head to be his personal press secretary - without his knowledge - crusading on his behalf. My efforts didn't come to much and at one point, apparently, a post on his forum, before I rushed off to our honeymoon in Egypt, resulted in a barrage of such abuse from one poster that the forum was temporarily closed down. I received an email from the man himself saying that he had enjoyed my posts, and he was sorry for the abuse from one of the posters. I never saw it, I was on honeymoon!

I never posted anything serious, deep or profound.

I'm wildly incapable of being serious, deep or profound.

So I often wonder what was said by this poster ... sadly ... I will probably never find out.

Still my stalking of Mr Ronson may awaken. I'm back in love with his books and want to read them all again from cover to cover. Watch my dodgy copies of 'Secret Rulers of the World', bought from charlatan on ebay, and post on the forum again.

Sadly I can't access the forum from work. All forums are blocked. Apparently his 'news' section of the website is blocked here also; for it is about 'criminal skills'.

I emailed Mr Ronson about this.

And he emailed me back!
My email:
Apparently - your news is classed as 'criminal skills' on our school firewall. What AM I missing out on?
I'm reading "Out of the Ordinary" at the moment - it's making me laugh a bit too loud on buses. I understood what you meant about"I'm like a brilliant English teacher" ... I come out with what Ibelieve to be witticisms, and I think I'm like a brilliant Englishteacher. The problem is, my English classes don't see it that wayand just wish I'd shut up and mark their books.
His response:
criminal skills!
I suppose it' the news that I was teaching how to crack safes
very happy you're enjoying Out of the Ordinary. Oh I bet yourstudents think you're fab!
xx
Hee hee
I'm so sad aren't I?

New photos ...

really, i should write more, instead i sit and procrastinate and then nothing ventures forth from my fingers.

unfortunately, it's 5:48am - i've been up since 3:30am - so i really should get my ass in gear, go into work and do some marking.

so, for your delectation, i've posted more dresden dolls photos here. I thought i'd lost them!

Ipswich, damning James Blunt and brain hurting ...

I'm from Ipswich originally, a smallish town in Suffolk, East Anglia. Residents of the town have been constantly derided for our accents, the fact that we're rural and the fact that we're possibly all inbred.
Recently, Ipswich has been on the national news, and it wasn't for a combine harvester clogging up a major motorway into London - no - it had its very own serial killer.
And now I find this - a man stalking women and talking to them about Star Wars. What is Ipswich coming to?

I got the following email from Lucifer (you know the one: horns, forked tail, red, has a hot poker, thought it was better to reign in hell than serve in heaven) earlier:

Hello Polstar

Thank you for your recent addition of Jamesblunt into the bowels of my fiery abyss. The little miscreant’s name has been added to my wall of the damned and you’re welcome to visit at any time. You don’t know how happy I am to see this lousy S.O.B. What can I say, I’m all giddy.

No no no no ... don't thank me, it's my good deed for the day :)
